Character & Leadership

Developing the next generation of leaders through service, advocacy, and community engagement.

Leadership is not something you are born with. It is something you develop. The character and leadership programs at the Boys & Girls Club of Kenosha give teens the tools, experiences, and mentorship they need to become confident, responsible leaders in their schools, communities, and future careers.

These programs are available to all teen members at no cost. Teen membership is FREE.

Keystone Club

Ages 14-18 BGCA National Program

Keystone Club is the premier teen leadership and service organization within Boys & Girls Clubs of America. Open to members ages 14-18, Keystone provides teens with opportunities to engage in activities across three focus areas: academic success, career preparation, and community service.

Members elect their own officers, plan and execute community service projects, organize fundraising events, and participate in leadership conferences at the regional and national level. Keystone teens have organized food drives, volunteered at local shelters, mentored younger Club members, and advocated for issues important to their community.

The experience teens gain through Keystone Club — public speaking, project management, teamwork, and civic engagement — makes them strong candidates for college admissions and scholarship programs. Many Keystone alumni go on to become Youth of the Year finalists.

Youth of the Year

BGCA Signature Program

Youth of the Year is the highest honor a Boys & Girls Club member can receive. This prestigious recognition program celebrates outstanding teens who have demonstrated exceptional leadership, academic excellence, community service, and personal growth through their Club experience.

Each year, the Boys & Girls Club of Kenosha selects one member as its local Youth of the Year. That teen goes on to compete at the state level, with the opportunity to advance to regional and national competitions. National Youth of the Year winners receive significant college scholarship awards and serve as ambassadors for Boys & Girls Clubs across the country.

Candidates prepare speeches, participate in interviews, and present their personal stories of how the Club has shaped their lives. The process itself is a powerful leadership development experience.
